Data from laboratory experiments investigating the effects of environmental calcium and magnesium concentrations, and salinity, on post-moult calcium and acid-base fluxes in whiteleg shrimp (<i>Penaeus vannamei</i>).<p dir="ltr">Two separate experiments were conducted to investigate how seawater [Ca2+] and [Mg2+] (at a constant Ca:Mg of 1:5) impact ion and acid bases fluxes during post-moult calcification in juvenile whiteleg shrimp. Both experiments were conducted in 2023 at the Aquatic Resources Centre at the University of Exeter. Shrimp (n = 30; wet mass = 0.57 ± 0.03 g) in Experiment

Relevant Data for "Nomadic songbirds achieve rapid increases in thermogenic capacity during cold acclimation while maintaining low corticosterone".<p dir="ltr">Here, we investigate metabolic flexibility of the red crossbill (<i>Loxia curvirostra</i>), a nomad that experiences wide variability in climate, to determine how flexibility in migration relates to thermogenic flexibility. Two ecotypes of captive red crossbill (Type 3 and Type 5) were transferred to thermoneutral (21°C) or cold (6°C) temperatures during their spring migratory period.

Data from: Population genetic structure and its implications for adaptive variation in memory and the hippocampus on a continental scale in food-caching black-capped chickadeesAbstract Food-caching birds rely on stored food to survive the winter and spatial memory has been shown to be critical in successful cache recovery. Both spatial memory and the hippocampus, an area of the brain involved in spatial memory, exhibit significant geographic variation linked to climate-based environmental harshness and the potential reliance on food caches for survival. Such geographic

Data from: Responses to simulated winter conditions differ between threespine stickleback ecotypesAbstract Abiotic factors can act as barriers to colonization and drive local adaptation. During colonization, organisms may cope with changes in abiotic factors using existing phenotypic plasticity, but the role of phenotypic plasticity in assisting or hindering the process of local adaptation remains unclear. To address these questions, we explore the role of winter conditions in driving divergen
