Ocean acidification changes the structure of an Antarctic coastal protistan community - R Code AnalysisAn unreplicated, six-level dose-response experiment was conducted using 650 L incubation tanks (minicosms) adjusted to fugacity of carbon dioxide (fCO2) from 343 to 11641 uatm. The minicosms were filled with near-shore water from Prydz Bay, East Antarctica and the protistan composition and abundance was determined by microscopy analysis of samples collected during the 18 day incubation. Ocean acidification changes the structure of an Antarctic coastal protistan communityExperimental Set-up: An unreplicated, 6-level, dose-response experiment was conducted on a natural microbial community over a range of pCO2 levels (343, 506, 634, 953, 1140 and 1641 micro atm). Seawater was collected on the 19th November 2014 approximately 1 km offshore from Davis Station, Antarctica (68 degrees 35' S, 77 degrees 58' E) from an area of ice-free water amongst broken fast-ice. Siple Dome A (SDMA) Grain Orientation 640 - 790 MetersThis data set characterizes the microstructure in ice cores, in particular the microstructural locations of impurities, grain orientations, and strain gradients. The fabric of polycrystalline ice is typically described using only the c-axis orientation, but this is insufficient for a full description of grain orientations in this hexagonal material. Thus, both the a-axis and c-axis are used in thi

Cold adaptation and functionality of the Antarctic Coastal Benthic ZonesAntarctic sediments and sea-ice are important regulators in global biogeochemical and atmospheric cycles. These ecosystems contain a diverse range of bacteria whose biogeochemical roles remains largely unknown and which inhabit what are continually low temperature habitats. An integrated molecular and chemical approach will be used to investigate the coupling of microbial biogeochemical processes

Erebus hydrogen emissions, oxidation state, phase equilibria, and anorthoclase megacrystalsThe continuous measurement of molecular hydrogen (H2) emissions from passively degassing volcanoes has recently been made possible using a new generation of low-cost electrochemical sensors. We have used such sensors to measure H2, along with SO2, H2O and CO2, in the gas and aerosol plume emitted from the phonolite lava lake at Erebus volcano, Antarctica. The measurements were made at the crater r

Continuous Measurement of Dust Concentration Along the Top 120 Meters of the Greenland Ice Sheet Project 2 (GISP2) Ice CoreWe measured the concentration of insoluble aerosols (i.e. dust) along the top 120 meters of the Greenland Ice Sheet Project 2 (GISP2) ice core, which was retrieved from the Summit location, central Greenland. We have also measured dust compositions at intervals along the core using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with an energy- dispersive X-ray analyzer (EDAX).
