Middle Eocene astronomically-tuned benthic stable isotopes, bulk stable isotopes and Ca/Fe-ratios of IODP Expedition 342 Sites U1408 and U1410To come to a coherent middle Eocene timescale for the Atlantic, we re-evaluate the astrochronology of chrons C20n/C20r at International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 342 Sites U1408 and U1410 off Newfoundland. Based on the stratigraphic work of Cappelli et al., 2019 a two-site-composite for the chrons C20n and C20r (~42-46 Ma) was constructed by transferring U1410 samples to the U1408

Springtime spatial distributions of biogenic sulfur compounds in the Yangtze River Estuary and their responses to seawater acidification and dustThe spatial distributions of dimethylsulfide (DMS), dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP), and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) were investigated in the Yangtze River Estuary from 9 to 23 March, 2018. Besides, we analyzed the vertical distributions of DMS, DMSP, and DMSO in early spring. An onboard incubation experiment was also carried out to study how the production and release of biogenic sulfur compounds

Results of palynological analysis from 2020 of the varved MO-05 core from Lake Mondsee (Austria) section (249-526 cm)This study reports a precisely dated pollen record with a 20-year resolution from the varved sediments of Lake Mondsee in the north-eastern European Alps (47°49′N, 13°24′E, 481 m above sea level). The analysed part of core spans the interval between 1500 BCE and 500 CE and allows changes in vegetation composition in relation to climatic changes and human activities in the catchment to be inferred.

Daily rescued meteorological observations across Europe (1917-1990)In the INDECIS project, around 610K meteorological station-based observations were rescued over the Balkans and Central Europe for the main climate variables (maximum and minimum temperature, rainfall, sunshine duration and snow depth) along the 20th century at daily scale. Digitizing was carried out by using a strict "key as you see" method, meaning that the digitizers type the values provided by

Climate proxies recorded in sediments from borehole Hank, Netherlands, for the Pliocene of the North SeaThe mid-Piacenzian Warm Period (mPWP, 3264-3025 ka) represents the most recent interval in Earth's history where atmospheric CO2 levels were similar to today. Here, we present a multi-proxy record of Pliocene climate change in the coastal Southern North Sea Basin (SNSB) based on the sedimentary record from borehole Hank, the Netherlands (drilled by TNO, Dutch Geological Survey). We present the sta

PHREEQC modeling of an abandoned high sulfidation open pit and SEM-EDS analyses of the mineralogy and geochemistry of the secondary phases developedOpen pit exploitation of the Kirki high sulfidation epithermal deposit (Thrace, NE Greece) resulted in the formation of an acidic pit lake by infilling of the open cast by rain and draining waters after mine closure. Three case specific PHREEQC geochemical models were developed including "Direct Precipitation", "Evaporation", and "Mixing with Rain water" in order to simulate the environmental cond

Sources and Sinks of short-lived radium isotopes in the southern North Sea: Implications for the system functioning and budget estimatesContinued population growth increases the demand for space and resources, which in turn enhances anthropogenic pressure on coastal seas. Biotic and abiotic ecosystem understanding in a wider context is essential for effective management of stakeholder interests. This study is a synthesis of recent findings based on short-lived radium isotopes in the shelf ocean North Sea and uses the isotopes to q
