Recidivism Among Young Parolees File

The agency undertook this study to examine the criminal activities of a group of young offenders after their release from prison to parole supervision.

Description

The agency arranged for the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research to prepare the data and documentation for public use. This series contains data from 22 states on parolees who were born between 1956 and 1960 and accounted for 50 percent of all state prisoners paroled in the United States in 1978.

The study data in cludes demographic information about the criminals and prisoners, such as age, sex, race, length of incarceration and prior arrest record. Also included are data on criminal justice administration, including the prosecution of cases in the courts, length of time between parole and rearrest, parolees not prosecuted for new crimes but having their parole revoked, rearrests in states other than the paroling states, and the nature and location of rearrest charges.
