A class about energy conversion using a bicycle, engine, alternator and bulb

Listed in DataCite

In this work we present a teaching proposal about energy conversion, through the analysis of a system consisting of a bicycle wheel connected to an alternator and a headlight, activated by an engine.

Description

This experiment provides an opportunity to discuss energy conversion, explaining the types of energy involved in the process, the need to power the system, and efficiency in energy use. The proposal was realized in a high school class, in which the students participated in a lecture about energy along with a demonstration of the experiment.

The analysis of the data, collected via questionnaires before and after the class, indicates an improvement in the students’ understanding regarding energy conversion and dissipation processes.
