UAV / Airborne LiDAR and Forest Inventory Survey Dataset for Remote Sensing Applications (Pinus Pinaster Forest / Northern Portugal) Dataset

Six GPKG files containing structural/spatial data (diameter at breast height in centimeters [cm], total height in meters [m], and individual coordinates) for each tree in six different 250m² circular sample areas analyzed by forest inventory surveys conducted on march of 2025 are also available, and a extra GPKG file with the geographical location and spatial distribution of the forest surveys. Additionally, this dataset features six manually tagged images, considering the canopy cover of each tree contained in the regions of interest analyzed in the field.

For context, there is one “study_site” image in PNG format showing the total forest area, as well as each location analyzed individually, and one "README" file in TXT format that can be accessed for additional information on each procedure performed, software versions used, and other additional details. This dataset is presented for direct use in optimization-based learning models and for manipulating TIFF data with a strong comparative basis, as it presents two spatial resolutions from a single location.

It can also be used to adjust prediction models, using the values obtained from forest inventories as validation parameters. Thus, tasks such as forest structure prediction, canopy segmentation, and aboveground carbon stock monitoring can be appropriately performed using this content. This dataset was produced using resources from projects iCarbono (icarbono.ipb.pt) and LIFE SILFORE, thereby facilitating their scientific contributions.
