The politics of anti deportation campaigning: A contentious social movement in Sheffield

Description
This paper argues that, from the point of view of Sheffield in the UK, the development of a significant social movement around anti-deportation campaigning can be seen to be a response to the social and political effects of the 1993 Asylum Appeals and Immigration Act, the 1996 Asylum and Immigration Act and the 1999 Immigration and Asylum Act. In particular, it was a response to the punitive and at times brutal operation of the legislation.
