Monitoring of Developments in the Petites Bergeronnes Marsh, Summer 2023 | Suivi des aménagements au marais des Petites Bergeronnes, été 2023
Listed in GBIF
The *Petites Bergeronnes* marsh has been altered by numerous human activities in recent decades: logging, cattle ranching, agriculture, development, etc.
Description
The east bank of the marsh is more disturbed than that on the west side, in particular by the development of an access road and the drainage of land. Human disturbances are responsible for the degradation of the marsh east of the Rivière des Petites Bergeronnes and its associated habitats, which are exacerbated by the natural dynamics of the watercourse.
In 2021, the Mamu Innu Kakussesht Agency (AMIK) gave a mandate to the firm WSP to undertake actions to remedy the situation and allow better circulation of salt water inside the marsh by repairing two culverts. The *Comité ZIP de la rive nord de l'estuaire* (Comité ZIP RNE) was mandated in 2023 by the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) to monitor the work carried out by WSP. The project aims to assess whether the developments carried out have allowed a gain in habitat for fish and vegetation.

Since the eastern end of the point at the mouth of the *Petites Bergeronnes* River is a heritage site recognized by the community of Essipit, this project was carried out in partnership with the Council of the Innu Essipit First Nation and NCC. This dataset covers floristic and ichthyological inventories as well as geomorphological data: digital terrain models (DTM) and orthophotographs carried out at the *Petites Bergeronnes* marsh in 2023.
