But, how does a pure culture of the bacterium look like on solid agar medium? Answer to this question depends on the medium used.

Typically, E. coli DH5α would take on a beige, round colony morphology when grown on rich medium such as LB agar or Tryptic Soy Agar. However, the beige colour is absent from E. coli DH5α colonies grown on minimal salts agar such as a formulated colourless agar used in this study.
