<p dir="ltr">Collectively, the findings presented in this thesis demonstrate that understanding microbial ecology in drinking water systems requires the integration of complementary analytical approaches.
Description
While 16S rRNA gene sequencing provided insight into the composition and diversity of microbial communities throughout the distribution system, FCM enabled the rapid assessment of microbial abundance and physiological characteristics, and genome-resolved metagenomics revealed the functional potential and metabolic capabilities of dominant microbial populations.
Together, these approaches provided a more comprehensive understanding of how microbial communities change across space and time, how they respond to environmental conditions, and how these changes may influence drinking water quality and biological stability.</p>
