Summary Statistic Data Files from the 19th Census of Population and Housing

Listed in Harvard Dataverse

The agency created these 1970 census summary statistic data files for researchers.

Description

This series contains summary statistic data files, generally referred to as "Counts." Each Count constituted a particular set of data tables for specific types of areas. There are six Counts, numbered the First Count through the Sixth Count.

The First, Second, and Third Counts provide data based on the complete count. The Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Counts are based on the 5-, 15- and 20-percent sample data , which are estimates rather than census counts. Since data from the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Counts are based on sample information inflated to represent the total population, data summaries for items in these files will differ slightly from comparable data summaries in the First, Second, and Third Counts.

Each Count has two or more files (i.e. "A," "B," ...) that differ in the types of geographic areas reported. Data are available from the First, Fourth, and Fifth Counts. This data comprises government records extracted from the Archival Research Catalog (ARC).

See the ARC catalog entry for this series for more information on this data and how to order it.
