De-identified Survey and Contextual Inquiry Data for Video-Based Software Learning Practices, Device Ecologies, and Usability Barriers

<p dir="ltr">This Figshare item contains de-identified data and derived analysis materials supporting the manuscript “Understanding Practices, Device Ecologies, and Challenges in Video-Based Software Learning: An Empirical Study and Design Opportunities.”</p><p dir="ltr">The item includes three Excel workbooks:</p><ol><li><code>study1_survey_device_setup_paired_data.xlsx</code> contains de-identified survey data for commonly used and ideal device setups, inclusion and exclusion indicators for the paired analysis.</li><li><code>study1_survey_open_ended_thematic_analysis.xlsx</code> contains de-identified response-level thematic coding and codebooks for device-setup rationales and AI-use rationales.</li><li><code>study2_contextual_inquiry_event_coding_and_codebook.xlsx</code> contains a de-identified contextual inquiry event log, the lower-level coding scheme, and operational definitions of the usability barriers reported in the manuscript.</li></ol><p dir="ltr">The shared files support the reported descriptive statistics, paired device-setup analysis, thematic counts, inter-rater agreement reporting, and contextual inquiry breakdown-event summaries.

Data collection was approved by the Purdue University Institutional Review Board (IRB-2025-393).</p><p dir="ltr">Participant identifiers in the shared files are synthetic and are not linked to names, email addresses, or other direct identifiers. Raw video recordings, audio recordings, and full interview transcripts are not included because they may contain identifiable participant information and are restricted by ethical and privacy considerations.</p>
