Climatological Atlas: 1950-1979 Surface Air Temperature, Precipitation, Sea-level Pressure, and Sea-surface Temperature (45 S-90 N)

The historical data sets are the Global Monthly Surface Station Data Set, primarily based upon observations from land stations, and the Comprehensive Ocean-Atmosphere Data Set, primarily based upon observations from ships of opportunity.

The maps included in this atlas are presented for two purposes: (i) to provide useful background fields against which new measurements may be compared and interpreted and (ii) to provide examples of the sampling networks available from the aforementioned historical data sets.
