Data set on the antifungal activity of essential oils and their bioactive constituents against Geotrichum citri-aurantii and Penicillium digitatum of orange

Listed in REDU - Unicamp Institutional Research Data Repository

This dataset contains experimental data generated in Chapter 1 of a doctoral research project developed at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) in partnership with Embrapa Meio Ambiente.

Description

The dataset comprises in vitro experiments evaluating the antifungal activity of essential oils, their major bioactive constituents, and constituent mixtures against the phytopathogenic fungi Geotrichum citri-aurantii and Penicillium digitatum, which are associated with important postharvest diseases of citrus fruits.

Antifungal activity was assessed using the agar dilution method by measuring fungal mycelial growth and determining the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the evaluated treatments. The experiments included screening essential oils, determining MIC values for selected oils, evaluating the antifungal activity of major constituents and their mixtures, and determining MIC values for individual constituents and ternary mixtures.

The dataset is organized into five independent experiments, each containing separate files for Geotrichum citri-aurantii and Penicillium digitatum: Experiment 1: screening of essential oils regarding antifungal activity; Experiment 2: determination of the minimum inhibitory concentration of selected essential oils; Experiment 3: evaluation of the antifungal activity of major constituents and their mixtures; Experiment 4: determination of the minimum inhibitory concentration of major constituents; Experiment 5: determination of the minimum inhibitory concentration of ternary mixtures composed of major constituents.

Data are provided in tabular format (.xlsx) and include treatment identification, concentrations, experimental replicates, and fungal growth measurements expressed as colony diameter or daily mycelial growth measurements, according to the corresponding experiment. These data may support studies involving natural antifungal compounds, postharvest disease management, and alternative strategies for reducing the use of synthetic fungicides in citrus production systems.
