Researchers visited each of these regions to carry out fieldwork, and most interviews were conducted in person. The interviews with the policy stakeholders were focused on exploring the following main themes: • The development of the economic transition from a historical perspective; • The level of awareness and engagement of different stakeholders in the regional economic transition process; • The stakeholders’ perceptions of the process; the challenges and opportunities for, and lessons learned from the development of the region that it entails; • The expected impacts and implications of the process for them and others in the region with a particular focus on the winners and losers from the reforms; • Perceived opportunities and capacities to influence the process; • Major challenges related to that and suggestions on how they could be addressed; The interviews with the vulnerable residents in the North Brabant region were focused on exploring: • The qualities of places that make the participants feel good/not good; • The qualities of places that the participants would like to change/remain the same; • The participants' identity (what they like to do, what makes them feel happy/themselves).
