Dataset of Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma Promoted CH4/CO2/H2O Reforming

Listed in ScienceDB

This dataset provides the supporting data for the research paper titled “Mechanisms of Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma Promoted CH4/CO2/H2O Reforming”.

Description

This work investigated the reforming performance, temperature distribution, reaction energy intensity, and possible reaction pathways of CH4/CO2/H2O reforming promoted by dielectric barrier discharge plasma. The effects of key operating parameters, including input power, inlet gas flow rate, and reactant composition, were examined to clarify the regulation mechanism of different redox component ratios on syngas production and carbon deposition inhibition.1.

Data generation process and methodsThis dataset was generated using a laboratory-scale non-thermal plasma chemical reaction platform. The core experimental process is described as follows:Reaction system: Adopting coaxial dielectric barrier discharge reactor. The inner diameter of the quartz tube is 20 mm and the wall thickness is 2.5 mm.

The inner electrode is a stainless steel rod with a diameter of 16 mm, and the outer electrode is a stainless steel wire mesh with a length of 150 mm wrapped around the outer wall of the quartz tube.Feed and Gas Distribution: High purity CH4, CO2 and N2 are metered by mass flow controllers and mixed in a gas mixer before entering the DBD reactor. Water is supplied by a syringe pump and introduced into a steam generator to produce vapor, which is then carried by the mixed gas into the DBD reactor.

During the experiments, N2 was maintained at 90% as a diluent and carrier gas to stabilize the discharge and improve the accuracy of gas chromatographic analysis. The CH4/CO2/H2O molar ratio is adjusted to study the influence of the reductant-to-oxidant ratio and the relative contributions of CO2 and H2O.Plasma excitation and parameter control: A high-frequency and high-voltage power supply (Corona Lab CTP-2000K) is used to drive the DBD reactor to generate non-thermal plasma.

The applied voltage and frequency are adjusted using a voltage regulator and the power supply. The discharge voltage and current are monitored and recorded in real time using a digital oscilloscope.Measurement and characterization:Electrical characteristics: The discharge voltage and current waveforms are recorded to analyze the DBD discharge characteristics under different input powers. The discharge power is calculated using the Lissajous graphical method based on the charge-voltage relationship.Temperature field: An infrared thermal imager is used to record the temperature distribution on the outer wall of the DBD reactor after the reaction reached a quasi-steady state.

The maximum reactor surface temperature and temperature cloud maps are used to evaluate the thermal behavior of the plasma reforming process.Product analysis: After the reaction reached a quasi-steady state, the outlet gas flow rate is measured using a soap film flowmeter. The reacted gas is then introduced online into a gas chromatograph equipped with TCD and FID detectors for qualitative and quantitative analysis.Reaction performance calculation: Based on the gas chromatographic analysis results, the single-pass conversions of CH4 and CO2 are calculated, together with the yields of gaseous products, including H2, CO, C2H6 and C3H8.Reaction energy intensity calculation: The reaction energy intensity is calculated from the standard molar enthalpy change of the target reforming reaction and the discharge energy supplied by the DBD reactor.Mechanism analysis data: The reaction mechanism is analyzed by combining experimental performance data, reaction energy intensity, and the variation of CH4/CO2/H2O molar ratios.

Special attention is given to the roles of CH4 as the reductant and CO2/H2O as oxidants. The possible reaction pathways involving CHx intermediates, ·O radicals, ·OH radicals, carbon deposition, syngas formation, and carbon gasification are summarized.2. Data processing stepsRaw data collection: Raw measurement data were directly recorded from the gas chromatograph, oscilloscope, infrared thermal imager, and soap film flowmeter.

These data included gas composition, outlet gas flow rate, discharge voltage and current, discharge images, and temperature distribution images.Data preprocessing: The GC peak areas are calibrated using standard gases to determine the concentration of each gas component. The Lissajous curves are processed to calculate the discharge power. The maximum reactor temperature and corresponding temperature distribution are extracted from the infrared thermal images.Performance index calculation: Using the formula provided in the paper, the CH4 conversion, CO2 conversion, product yields, discharge power, and reaction energy intensity are calculated for each experimental condition.Statistics and
