National Immunization Survey (NIS) Files

Listed in Harvard Dataverse

The agency collected data to monitor vaccination coverage of children between the ages of 19 and 35 months and to show improvements in children's health.

Description

The agency used the data to evaluate progress towards the national vaccination goals and to identify states with the highest and lowest rates of vaccination coverage. This series provides vaccination history and demographic and socioeconomic information.

This health and social survey consists of two parts: a household telephone survey and a survey of vaccination providers. The household survey provides information from the child's written record (shot card) of the vaccination history. Demographic and socioeconomic variables includes the child's age, race, and sex; mother's education, marital status, age, and economic status; number and age of people in the household; residence at time of birth; current residence; family income; and availability of a telephone in the home.
