Governing transition in Kosovo : post-conflict peacebuilding United Nations style

Particular emphases are placed on the transitional justice processes employed by the United Nations Interim Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) during the transitional administration. In particular it examines the intersection of ‘top down’ international actors and institutions – the UNMIK and other international bodies such as the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) - with efforts to rebuild the Kosovan state justice and political system.

The thesis questions the capacity of the United Nation (UN) to govern, build a democratic state system through transitional administrations, and serve as a role model in war torn territories.
