The mean age at the time of button battery ingestion was three years, with a median of three years and two months (standard deviation ± 1.63). 6/16 children were under two years old. Initial symptoms varied and included abdominal pain, cough, vomiting, among others. Seven patients underwent battery removal, while nine did not due to a non-esophageal location.
Secondary complications occurred in seven patients, with ulcerations, fistulas, and substenosis being the most frequent. There were no cases of button battery ingestion from 2016 to 2018. Two cases were recorded in 2019, five in 2020, nine in 2021, two in 2022, and none in 2023.
