Mosquito-borne Disease Testing

Listed in Norfolk Open Data Portal

The Norfolk Department of Public Health's Vector Control Division operates year-round to manage mosquito populations and safeguard residents from mosquito-borne diseases, while enhancing overall quality of life in Norfolk.

Description

Their efforts include placing mosquito traps at hundreds of locations across the city. Each morning, Vector Control staff retrieve the traps, analyze them in the lab, and record the number and species of mosquitoes, as well as test for any potential viruses or diseases.

This dataset provides the results of arboviral testing for the presence of the West Nile Virus or Eastern Equine Encephalitis genetic material in those mosquitos as well as detailed information including collection date, location, trap type, and species. It covers data from 2020 to the present.
