From Suicidal Ideation to Hope: Perceived Mental Health Transformation Following a Culturally Adapted Multiple Family Group Therapy for Adolescents Living with HIV in Ghana - A Qualitative Process Evaluation.

Listed in Teesside University Research Data Repository

Description

This dataset supports the qualitative process evaluation "From Suicidal Ideation to Hope: Perceived Mental Health Transformation Following a Culturally Adapted Multiple Family Group Therapy for Adolescents Living with HIV in Ghana," nested within a cluster randomised controlled trial (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT06701942) evaluating the Abusuafoɔ Apomuden ("Healthy Families") intervention in the Lower Manya Krobo District, Ghana.

The dataset comprises: Two de-identified sample focus group discussion (FGD) transcripts (Word format), each curated to a practical focus-group size (6 and 7 participants respectively) from post-intervention FGDs conducted with adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV) who completed the culturally adapted Multiple Family Group Therapy programme. Specific community names, facilitator/staff names, and named peers have been redacted and replaced with generic labels ("[COMMUNITY REDACTED]," "[FACILITATOR]," "[PEER]") to protect participant and staff confidentiality.

Full raw transcripts and complete participant-level data are not included, given the small group sizes, participants' HIV status, and the inclusion of minors, which together create a meaningful risk of re-identification even after de-identification. Codebook (Excel) — 29 codes developed through reflexive thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006), organised by theme and subtheme, each with a plain-language definition and a short, non-identifying anchor example.

Thematic framework (coding tree) (Excel) — the hierarchical analytic structure linking the three overarching themes and twelve subthemes reported in the manuscript, with the number of codes contributing to each subtheme. Sociodemographic summary dataset (Excel) — aggregated counts and percentages (N=19) for participant age, gender, education level, occupation, primary caregiver relationship, time since HIV diagnosis, and prior participation in a support programme, transcribed from the manuscript's Table 1.

No individual-level rows are included.
