Replication data for Fig 15.13. BGUW, Frequency of genital self-licking by each sex on a female's single day of estrus, 19 May 2026

This file does NOT show the raw data for genital licking--i.e., the numbers of genital lickings by each sex for every estrous female--but I have checked the overall percentages TWO TIMES for the percentages shown in this table. GPD data are from all three GPD study-colonies: PEFO, RMC, and VCC. GPD Redondo Meadow Colony (RMC, studied in 2013 through 2016) was at Valles Caldera National Preserve (VCNP).

GPD Visitor Center Colony (VCC, studied in 2017 and 2018) was also at VCNP. GPD colony at Petrified Forest National Park (PEFO) was studied from 1989 through 1995. These data used for Fig 15.13 in Hoogland 2026.

This file ready for longterm storage on 09 May 2025. These data come from behavioral observations of females and local males on the female's single day of estrus I considered data from the same prairie dog male and the same prairie dog female in different years to be independent. When a prairie dog female copulated with two or more males (i.e., was polyandrous; see Chapter 19), we recorded presence or absence of self-licking of the vulva for the single female, and we also recorded presence or absence of self-licking of the penis by any one of the 1, 2, 3, or more males that copulated with the female.
