The source and destination of estrogen

Listed in ScienceDB

Estrogen levels have a significant impact on the onset of schizophrenia, with a wide range of sources including the ovaries, uterus, liver, brain, and other organs.

Description

Adipose tissue also produces some estrogen, while prolactin inhibits estrogen production. The mechanism of action of estrogen in the body is complex, with a protective effect on nerves, acting on dopaminergic, 5-hydroxytryptaminergic, and glutamatergic neurotransmitters, and also affecting the content of tissue-specific RNA and homocysteine.

In the process of estrogen action, estrogen related receptors are also a key link.
