Vegetation mapping and leaf traits of Salix polaris along a postgacial chronosequence

Listed in GBIF

Glacier retreatment exposes new habitats available for colonization by different plant-taxa.

Description

This study focuses on vegetation cover and frequency of the vascular plant populations along a postglacial chronosequence by Midtre Lovébreen, and the relative strength of Salix polaris, measured as a combination of C/N-ratio and SLA. In total six sites were visited, spanding from 1899 to 11 years since glacier-retreat.

The five oldest sites are part of a study conducted by Hodkinson et al. (2003) and were revisited by former students attending the AB-201 course at The University Centre in Svalbard in 2024 and 2025. The youngest site is an additional site, and was established by the students in 2024.
