Replication Data for: Closed Loop Control and Optimization in Centrifugal Partition Chromatography

Centrifugal partition chromatography (CPC) is an effective liquid–liquid separation method, although its overall performance can be constrained by fixed process settings, loss of stationary phase, and downtime between individual runs.
Description
This study presents a proof of concept for an integrated closed-loop CPC strategy designed to address these limitations. The approach combines online control of stationary-phase retention through solvent redosing with model-based optimization of operating conditions and continuous assessment of chromatographic resolution.
Predictive models for retention times and peak widths were applied to identify operating points that maximize productivity. Measured resolution values were then used as feedback to correct setpoints and compensate for deviations between the process model and the actual system behavior. After a stable baseline separation had been achieved, model-guided stacked injections were introduced to minimize inactive periods between consecutive separation cycles.

The concept was tested in both CPC operating directions: descending mode using nicotinic acid and coumarin, and ascending mode using coumarin and vanillin. Compared with conventional sequential operation, stacked injections in descending mode improved solvent efficiency by 86% and increased productivity by 115%. In ascending mode, solvent efficiency rose by 88%, while productivity improved by 153%.
Overall, the findings indicate that combining closed-loop operating-point optimization with stacked injections can markedly enhance CPC productivity and reduce solvent consumption while preserving the required separation quality. This dataset contains raw data used in the validation of a novel control concept in Centrifugal Partition Chromatography. The data contain excel and prm file with chromatograms as well as images used for retention control.
