This paper considers the origin, evolution and consequences of ethnic conflict in Guyana.
Description
It analyzes the dynamics of ethnic conflict between Indians and Africans in terms of predisposing and triggering factors (where the predisposing factors are cultural pluralism, occupational and residential differences and lack of overarching institutions, and the triggering factors are colonial manipulation and superpower rivalry, introduction of mass democratic politics, the nature of the electoral system and competition for resources).<p></p>
