Metal and NonMetal Impoundment Tracking System (MITS) Files

The agency created and maintained this series to provide an automated system for storage and retrieval of mine and mineral resources impoundment site information.

Description

The series consists of an impoundment site file and activity file. The impoundment site file contains data including impoundment mine identification and site number, state and district where the mine is located and the name and address of the company operating the mine.

The activity file contains narrative information, including the date and type of activity occurring at the mine, the number of trailers involved, and a narrative description of the activity. This data comprises government records extracted from the Archival Research Catalog (ARC). See the ARC catalog entry for this series for more information on this data and how to order it.
