Birdex Bird Sightings

Users log the birds they see as they go about everyday birdwatching, and can choose to contribute their records as open biodiversity data. All locations are generalised to 1 km and all records are published anonymously.

Records are extracted from the Birdex database for users who have given explicit, revocable consent to contribute. Each record carries a stable occurrenceID (the sighting's UUID), a UKSI Taxon Version Key in taxonID, and an eventDate giving the observation date. The full dataset is regenerated and re-supplied each cycle rather than sent as incremental changes: records from users who have since withdrawn consent, or who have deleted a sighting or their account, are simply absent from the next file.
