Fruiting trees and their bird and mammalian visitors and seed predators in the Anamalai Hills, India

The data were collected between November 2017 and March 2019 as part of a study on plant-frugivore interactions and seed predation in fragmented tropical rainforests. The dataset comprises 2641 records: 481 tree occurrence records belonging to 17 taxa (91.7% of records belonging to four focal species: Canarium strictum, Heynea trijuga, Myristica beddomei, and Machilus glaucescens) and 2160 animal occurrence records (1921 bird records of 23 taxa and 239 mammal records of 14 taxa).

Tree records represent individual trees selected for fruit-tree watches across a gradient of forest cover in forest fragments and benchmark (relatively contiguous) forests. Animal records represent birds visiting the focal trees recorded through visitation rate counts and focal scan observations, and mammals (primarily rodents and ungulates acting as seed predators) recorded beneath a subset of trees through camera trapping.
