Efficacy of heel lifts for mid-portion Achilles tendinopathy

Listed in ZivaHub

Mid-portion Achilles tendinopathy is a painful and disabling injury, affecting 6% of people in their lifetime.

Description

Management of this injury can be challenging. Although the recommended treatments lead to improvement for many, up to 20% of patients do not fully recover after 10 years.

Heel lifts are a commonly used alternative treatment. They are shoe inserts that are designed to raise the heel, which may reduce the stretch and load on the Achilles tendon, helping to relieve pain. Despite this, there is limited evidence supporting their use as a treatment and their proposed mechanism remains uncertain.
