Replication data for Fig 14.4, 14.12, BTPDs, Wean vs female body mass (X2), 04 May 2026

Listed in data.InDoRES

On 20 Jan 2020, I created this file from SYSTAT file = wtvslitt, which I created on 20 Nov 1991.

Description

I assumed that I checked the SYSTAT file TWO TIMES when I created it. Here I will compare for BTPDs probability of weaning >=1 baby vs (a) female body mass just before, during, or just after the mating season = Femwt in Feb and (b) female body mass when weanlings were first emerging from their natal burrow entrances (Femwt in May or June) Litter size = number of weanling offspring that emerged from natal burrow entrance Year = 77 = 1977; 82 = 1982; 85 = 1985, etc.

Femwt = female body mass Mean offspring body mass = mean for all juveniles in litter Mean offspring body mass = mean body mass for all offspring in litter Weaning or no weaning = 0 = BTPD female did NOT wean litter; Weaning or now weaning = 1 = BTPD female DID wean litter This file includes both adult and yearling BTPD females, with the understanding that MOST BTPD females did not wean a litter as yearlings Litter size = litter size at first emergence of offspring from their natal nursery-burrow = number of weanlings.

Yearlings = number of weanlings that survive for >= 9 months after first emergence--not shown in this EXCEL file All weights are in GRAMS Empty cell = missing data These data used for Figs 14.4 and 14.12 in Hoogland 2026--i.e., this EXCEL file used for two separate Figs in Hoogland 2026 This file ready for longterm storage on 02 May 2025. I considered data from the same prairie dog female in different years to be independent.

From this file I compare weaning vs (a) body mass during mating season for BTPD fems that DID vs did NOT wean a litter (Fig 14.4) and (b) body mass at first juvenile emergence for BTPD fems that DID vs did NOT wean a litter (Fig 14.12) In general, I used only one body mass for each time period per female, even though I sometimes had several body masses.
