Replication data for: The Political Science 400: A 20-Year Update

Listed in Harvard Dataverse

Using citation count data from 1960-2005 we update the work of Hans-Dieter Klingemann and his co-authors (Klingemann, 1986; Klingemann, Grofman and Campagna, 1989) to identify the four hundred most highly cited faculties in the discipline currently teaching at U.S. Ph.D. granting institutions.

Description

We break down this list by Ph.D. cohort, by subfield, and by gender. In updating Klingemann’s work 20 years later we see some generational change, as the citation dominance of 1950s and 1960s cohorts is replaced with that of scholars who’s Ph.D.s come from the 1970s and later, but a considerable continuity in which scholars are the most cited within any given cohort.
