Night stalkers and serial thrillers: understanding and assessing creative practice and competing screenwriting models in the creation of a hybrid-genre TV serial

At its core is the creation of an original three-part script entitled Undying, a proposed genre hybrid TV serial merging elements of Horror Television and the UK Police Procedural. This process is informed by examination of extant screenwriting models and academic discourse relating to both screenwriting itself and genre hybridity.

This thesis also explores the two genres being hybridised, discussing their respective historical development, narrative moorings, and common forms and permutations. The writing of those screenplays and concomitant reflection is then used to generate tools and approaches for genre hybridisation which might then serve screenwriters and film educators.
