A Case of Mixed Motives? Formal and Informal Functions of Administrative Immigration Detention
Listed in ZivaHub and Deakin Research Online — shown once because both records carry DOI 10.25446/oxford.33351975.v1
All over Europe new detention centres for immigrants are being or have been built in recent years.
Description
This paper asks if the formal policy framework for administrative migrant detention, in which detention is primarily a non-punitive means to achieve the goal of removing unwanted migrants, constitutes a sufficient explanation for actual detention practices. It looks at the specific case of the Netherlands where it appears that immigration detention practices serve informal social functions that are not codified in law.
