Two-Echelon Vehicle Routing Problem with Collaborative Vehicle Utilization
Listed in IISH Dataverse
Urban freight distribution increasingly relies on two-echelon networks, where goods move from central distribution centers to satellites before final delivery.
Description
Fleet shortages at either echelon can create bottlenecks and reduce network efficiency. This study introduces the Two-Echelon Vehicle Routing Problem with Collaborative Vehicle Utilization (2EVRP-CVU), a framework enabling carriers to share vehicles across both echelons.
Each carrier serves only its own customers, preserving customer privacy and service quality. We develop two mixed-integer programming formulations: an arc-based formulation solved with a commercial MIP solver (Gurobi), and a route-based formulation solved using an exact branch-cut-and-price algorithm, supported by heuristics for larger instances. This archive contains two types of instances: C-instances (clustered customer locations, 9 files) and R-instances (randomly distributed customer locations, 12 files), both generated by extending the Solomon benchmark instances to a two-echelon collaborative vehicle routing setting.
