In December 2025, by Royal Decree of His Majesty the King, the reserve was renamed as Mohamed bin Zayed Nature Reserve on the United Arab Emirates’ celebration of its 54th Union Day. This renaming reflects appreciation for the role played by His Highness the President of the United Arab Emirates in strengthening the fraternal and historic relations between the two neighboring countries, as well as for his positions that embody the highest meanings of affection toward the Kingdom of Bahrain and its people.
The reserve showcases unique native species of plants and animals that represent Bahrain’s desert environment and the rich biodiversity of the Arabian region. Among the most notable species are the Arabian oryx, the Bahraini sand gazelle (Reem gazelle), the Markh plant ( Broom Bush) , palm trees, as well as many other plants, birds, mammals, and reptiles of ecological importance.
