The Heimdall and Kukri Erosion surfaces

Wherever possible, the base of the Taylor Group and its relationship to the basement was investigated. At each site a reconnaissance was conducted to determine the best sections to study.

In each area one or more sections was measured in detail and where possible these covered the whole succession from the Kukri Erosion surface, through the lower part of the Taylor Group to well above the Heimdall Erosion Surface. Individual sections were supplemented by lateral surveys to assess variability. Sedimentary structures, trace fossils assemblages and composition were recorded and samples taken for further laboratory study.
