Bhutan: Invasive Plant Species Observations

Listed in GBIF

Description

With the ratification of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in 1995 by the 73rd session of the National Assembly, the National Biodiversity Centre became the implementing agency for the CBD and the National Focal Point for the Nagoya Protocol on access to genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from their utilization, as designated during the 44th Commission meeting of the National Environment Commission.

The Biodiversity Act of Bhutan 2022 mandates the National Biodiversity Centre, in consultation with relevant agencies, to serve as the National Focal Point, coordinate and develop national management strategies, and furnish a list of invasive alien species to regulatory authorities for import regulation. In line with this mandate, the National Biodiversity Centre, with funding support from Bhutan for Life, has conducted various field trips to record invasive plant species across the country.
