UPDATED CHECKLIST AND DISTRIBUTION Of WILD TERRESTRIAL MAMMALS IN LOUISIANA

Since then, biologists have continued collecting specimens throughout the state; however, it is unclear how these efforts have affected the known distribution and community of Louisiana mammals. Biodiversity databases and published literature were searched to identify previously unpublished parish records of wild terrestrial mammals in Louisiana since the publication of Lowery’s seminal work. Two species (Myotis septentrionalis and Baiomys taylori) are new to Louisiana’s mammalian fauna, whereas for three species (Microtus ochrogaster, Bassariscus astutus, Canis rufus) no naturally occurring records of any kind have been reported since 1974.
