Enterprise Statistics Summary Files

This series contains summary data on the industrial classification and size structure of all business enterprise firms in the Economic Censuses and their establishments, including auxiliaries. The 1987 files contain national statistics about the 3.9 million companies covered by the 1987 Economic Censuses, with the number of establishments, employment, payroll, and receipts classified by industry (by Enterprise Industry Classification code) and by company size, legal form of organization, and concentration (Company Summary data).

Limited statistics by state are provided.For 1992, the data are presented in two parts: Company Summary and Auxiliary Establishments data. Company Summary data includes U.S. statistics, statistics by employment and receipts size, statistics for companies operating one auxiliary or more, and statistics for companies with 500 or more employees. Auxiliary Establishment statistics include data on employees by type of work performed; statistics by state; statistics by employment size; employer cost for fringe benefits; sales to customers outside the company; value of inventories; method of valuation for reported inventories; gross depreciable assets; capital expenditures, rental payments, and research and development expenditures; and cost of purchased items.
