Wind Intensity (m/s) from MERRA Dataset (1985-2011)

Listed in NASA Earthdata CMR

Description

MERRA is a NASA reanalysis for the satellite era using a major new version of the Goddard Earth Observing System Data Assimilation System Version 5 (GEOS-5). The Project focuses on historical analyses of the hydrological cycle on a broad range of weather and climate time scales and places the NASA EOS suite of observations in a climate context. More information, including an FAQ and the file specification document that explains each of the products in detail, is available at the MERRA web site at the GMAO (gmao.gsfc.nasa.gov/merra/).

The "Wind intensity" field in the catalog is an annual mean of the global 10-m wind field produced each 6 h at the native resolution of 0.5° in latitude x 0.625° in latitude.
