Tree occurrence across disturbance and elevation gradients in the northern Western Ghats, Maharashtra, India (2022-2023)

Plots were established across three forest categories differing in disturbance history: less-disturbed sacred groves (locally known as devrais; n = 40), historically disturbed government-owned forests including protected areas and reserved forests (n = 40), and repeatedly disturbed privately owned forests (n = 40).

Plots were further distributed across low (8–514 m a.s.l.) and high (577–1,054 m a.s.l.) elevations. In each plot, the identity, girth and height of all woody stems with girth at breast height (GBH) ≥ 10 cm were recorded.
