File of Master Case File Data

The sample was used for determining the appropriate disposition for the FBI case files. This series contains information extracted from the 16,750 case files examined in the regular sample of agency headquarters, the seven field offices, and two legal attache offices; and 900 case files examined in the headquarters multi-section sample field office oversample ("extras").

The sample of field office correlates to headquarters case files examined as part of a comparison sample. Each record contains information recorded on the data collection sheet for a case file except the specific violation and the reviewer's comments. Data elements include the NARA appraiser, date, file size and the status, number of documents in the file, origin of information, file and case processing history, file subject and bibliographic details, type of organization, evaluations of primary value and research potential, and disposition.
