Description

This thesis examines the relationships between language andideology and how these relationships are represented in the analysis oftexts in general and slogans in particular, following Systemic FunctionalLinguistic analysis which is developed by M.A.K Halliday, with anexceptional focus on Transitivity as well as on Lexicalization developedby Roger Fowler (1991). The study also shows how the structure ofslogans can serve a particular ideology and is capable of storing meaningswhich are not obvious for ordinary audience as well as having a greatmanipulation upon their own judgments and reactions.

The study presentsan analysis of the chanted slogans of the Egyptian revolution (the 25th ofJanuary, 2011). Its main purpose is to disclose which meaning the slogancarries, and how it is employed in the context of the Egyptian revolution.Furthermore, it intends to investigate whether the slogan has an impact ondiscourse in general and the Egyptian reaction in particular. Methods ofcritical linguistics and critical discourse analysis are drawn upon in orderto critically analyze the slogans.
