Shock Waves From Line Sources

Listed in National Center for Atmospheric Research

This report describes the background, numerical methods, and results of a theoretical and experimental study of the pressure waves generated by a sudden release of energy along a straight line.

Description

Although this work has no direct relationship to the atmospheric sciences, it was carried out as the first step in a numerical study of the pressure wave from a lightning discharge, which approximates a line source.
