A New Species of Mandevilla (Apocynaceae) from the Atlantic Forest in the Serra do Mar, São Paulo State, Brazil

Mandevilla curucutuensis is introduced and illustrated as a new species with a restricted distribution in the Serra do Mar, predominantly in the Núcleo Curucutu of the Parque Estadual Serra do Mar, São Paulo State, Brazil. The species shows similarities to M. fragrans because both have a similar leaf shape and aromatic flowers with white lobes but can be distinguished primarily by the vinaceous coloration on the stem, petiole, and corolla tube and terminal inflorescences in M. curucutuensis, whereas in M. fragrans, the stem, petiole, and corolla tube are green and the inflorescences are lateral.

Based on assessments following IUCN criteria, Mandevilla curucutuensis is preliminarily classified as Endangered (EN). This work includes its taxonomic description, comparisons with related species, photographs of both live and dried specimens, illustrations, and distribution maps. Additionally, an identification key is provided to assist in recognizing Mandevilla species occurring in the Núcleo Curucutu.
