Survey instrument: Immigrants' news consumption and sense of belonging

The role of news consumption in immigrants’ sense of belonging." The survey examines how immigrants engage with news media, and how such engagement relates to their sense of belonging in the receiving society (the Netherlands). The instrument received ethical approval from the Ethical Committee for Social Domain Research of Utrecht University of Applied Sciences (reference number: 2024-60).

To ensure accessibility and inclusivity, the survey was available in eight languages: Arabic, Dutch, English, French, Turkish, Polish, Ukrainian, and Portuguese. Professional sworn translators registered with the Raad voor Rechtsbijstand (Legal Aid Board) produced culturally adapted translations that adhered to the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Upon opening the survey, participants reviewed an introduction to the study, and provided informed consent before proceeding.
