Scottish One Health Antimicrobial Use and Antimicrobial Resistance - Annual Report

Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infection (ARHAI) Scotland collects, monitors, analyses, and interprets information on antibiotic use (AMU) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in human and animal health, to reduce the threat of and risk from infections caused by micro-organisms that are resistant to antimicrobials. Antimicrobial resistance occurs when micro-organisms, such as bacteria, adapt the ability to survive exposure to a treatment that would normally kill them.

ARHAI Scotland and Public Health Scotland (PHS) jointly produce the Scottish One Health Antimicrobial Use and Antimicrobial Resistance (SONAAR) Report including data on AMU and AMR in human and animal health. The Scottish One Health Antimicrobial Use and Antimicrobial Resistance (SONAAR) approach contributes to ARHAI Scotland’s mission to improve the health and wellbeing of the population by reducing the burden of infection and antimicrobial resistance.
