This data set reports vertical profiles of snow reflectance and specific surface area (SSA) collected in October 2022 as part of the NASA SnowEx 2023 Alaska field campaign.
Description
Measurements were taken from three snow pits located within the Upper Kuparuk Toolik (UKT) field site, a coastal tundra environment in the North Slope region of the northern Alaska coastal plain. Reflectance was measured in situ using a 1310 nm integrating sphere laser device (IceCube) and converted to SSA during data processing (Gallet et al., 2009).
SSA data collected from the same study sites in October 2023 and March 2023 are available as <a href="doi.org/10.5067/BSEP59ADC6XN">SnowEx23 Laser Snow Microstructure Specific Surface Area Data, Version 1</a> and <a href="nsidc.org/data/snex23_ssa_so/versions/1">SnowEx23 Laser Snow Microstructure Specific Surface Area Snow-off Data, Version 1</a>.
