This study explores disfluency patterns during consecutive interpreting, with a focus on how these patterns reflect interpreters’ underlying cognitive processes.
Description
Drawing on insights from interpreting studies, psycholinguistics and cognitive psychology, it investigates the relationship between disfluency production and attention allocation across key task components. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the study triangulates psychophysiological and behavioural data to examine cognitive load during interpreting.
The findings offer implications for understanding cognitive effort in interpreting and provide directions for interpreter training and research on cognitive mechanisms in language processing.<br><br><i>Thesis is embargoed until 31 July 2030</i>.
